One of the easiest ways to get answers from your higher-self.

A pendulum is a method of divination or dowsing that produces a yes or no answer in response to a question. In the past, this technique was often used to locate underground source water, mineral and lost objects.   Pendulums have been used in various cultures for thousands of years and can be made from very simple materials. Some pendulums can be made of a variety of materials including crystals, wood, glass, and metals. They are often used as tools for spiritual healing and inner growth.

The type of stone you get for your pendulum can have an effect on how it interacts with you, or what it is better at predicting. Often healers work with crystals that offer healing energy or protection. Some people prefer very clear quartz, which they feel is better at shining light on the truth.

Getting started

Choose A Pendulum:
Allow a pendulum to choose you. If you like the way it looks or feels, it is meant for you.

Cleanse Your Pendulum:
You may cleanse it by holding it under running cold tap water, soaking it in sea salt, or setting a mental intention to free it of all previous energies.

Allow your pendulum to synchronize with your energy:

Carry the pendulum with you on your pocket all the time for several days. This will allow the pendulum to absorb and identify with your energy.

Starting out

Find a place.  You will want to sit at a relatively quiet place, free from interruption and distractions. You can sit in front of a table so that you can rest the elbow of your pendulum hand on the surface.

Ground and protect yourself. Like with any other spiritual practice, ground and protect yourself. One of the easiest ways to protect yourself is to visualize a white light completely covering you. This white light is coming from the source and it will protect you from any negativity. For grounding you can wear or hold any crystal good for grounding i.e.: hematite, onix, obsidian, etc. This will help you connect your energy field to the Earth.

Set your intentions with the pendulum.  By saying a prayer or saying that any and all information coming through your pendulum is coming from the light. You can also program it by saying you only want your Angels to be the ones communicating through your pendulum - or your higher self or your spirit guides.

The position. Hold the pendulum between the thumb and first finger of one hand, allowing it to hang down freely. You want to make sure that your arm and hand move as little as possible.

Identify the "yes" and "no" answers. Start by asking the pendulum to show you how it indicates a yes answer, and how it indicates a no answer. Make each question separately, i.e.: "please show me how you indicate a "yes" answer". Once a clear motion has been demonstrated, you can then ask the pendulum to show you how it will indicate a "no" answer. Most often these motions are circular (clockwise and counter clockwise) or linear (left-right or forward-back) but some pendulums move more irregularly.

Prepare Your Questions. Your pendulum will answer any questions with either a "yes" or "no", so it is important to structure your questions. Your questions should be the type that can be answered with a positive, negative or neutral response.

Good Question Example:
"Will I be offered the job I interviewed for this morning?"

Poor Question Example:
"Should I stay at this job or leave?"

Sometimes, I would actually speak the question out loud. This seems to have helped me hold my focus a bit better. Once you ask, you have to keep your mind clear. If your mind is focused on a specific answer, you can actually influence the pendulum to just tell you what you wish the answer to be. This can take a bit of practice.

Watching for the answer. Sometimes a pendulum will hang motionless for many moments and other times it will start to move strongly right away. Keep your mind focused on the question and allow the pendulum motion to develop clearly.

Between Questions. Make sure to completely stop any pendulum motion between questions to clear any lingering energies that pertain to the previous question.

Some important Tips:

1.     The pendulum can provide a good second opinion. It uses your own energy, and as such, should not be touched by others who may impart their vibrations into the pendulum, thereby reducing its reliability.

2.     Accept information only if your instincts assure you it is accurate.

3.     Keep a notebook handy to write down your questions and your pendulum's response.

4.     Make sure that the pendulum has been cleared of any negative energies before and after each use.

5.     The pendulum will learn to resonate with you, within your own energy field.

6.      Ask the pendulum simple questions that will help build your trust in the answers.
