Reiki is a Japanese holistic technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It re-establishes a normal energy flow throughout the system, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body's innate healing ability.
The word Reiki (pronounced ‘ray key’) is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is "spiritually guided life force energy." Reiki is administered by "laying on hands" through trained practitioners that have been attuned to it.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
How is a Reiki treatment given? During the treatment the Reiki energy flows through my hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a Reiki table (similar to a massage table) but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or standing if required. The client remains fully clothed. I place my hands on or near the client’s body in a series of hand positions, which include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. The whole treatment usually lasts between 45 to 60 minutes.
What happens during a session? The client, fully clothed, lies on a Reiki treatment table (similar to a massage table). Treatments can also be given while the client is seated or standing if required. My hands remain in a stationary position, gently on or slightly above the body through several positions from head to toe. The Reiki energy flows through my hands into the client. There is no manipulation of the skin since Reiki is not massage.
What does a Reiki treatment feels like?Experiences vary from person to person. Many individuals report feeling cold, pulsating heat, or a tingling sensation during a session and enter in a calm and relaxed state. At the end of the treatment, one feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook. Sometimes allergies, other physical weaknesses and chronic or acute pain can diminish or completely disappear.
